Credential Templates

In Hovi, a Credential Template defines the structure, required data fields, and format for creating verifiable digital credentials. Templates ensure that all issued credentials follow a consistent structure and contain the necessary information in a standardized way, making them easy to issue, verify, and reuse across the ecosystem.

For example, a Degree Certificate Template for educational institutions might include fields such as:

  • Student Name
  • Degree Title
  • Institution Name
  • Date of Graduation
  • Issuing Authority

Hovi supports various credential types. To learn more, please visit Interoperability.

How Do Credential Templates Work in Hovi?

In the Hovi platform, Credential Templates streamline the credential issuance process through these steps:

1. Template Creation

A tenant (such as a bank, university, or healthcare provider) creates a template that includes the necessary fields for the credential, like name, issuance date, and other specific attributes relevant to their use case.

For example, a Loan Pre-Approval Template might have fields for the applicant’s name, loan amount, interest rate, etc.

2. Issuance

When issuing a credential, the organization fills out the template with recipient-specific data (e.g., loan applicant details) and generates a verifiable credential. This credential is then shared with the recipient, who can store it in their digital wallet.

3. Verification

Verifiers (e.g., other financial institutions or employers) use the standardized structure of the credential to authenticate and verify its legitimacy quickly. For example, a financial institution could use the verification template to confirm the loan pre-approval status of a customer applying for a mortgage.

Key Benefits of Credential Templates in Hovi

  • Efficiency: Templates save time by allowing issuers to create credentials quickly without building each credential from scratch.
  • Consistency: Ensures all credentials issued by an organization have the same format, reducing errors and confusion.
  • Reusability: Once created, credential templates can be reused to issue credentials to different recipients across the ecosystem, making the process scalable and adaptable.
  • Interoperability: Credentials generated from templates can be seamlessly recognized and processed by other platforms and services in the ecosystem.
